Solomon Kane Rocks!
I found this movie to be an excellent adaptation/back story--something that was lacking in Robert E.Howard's original stories of Solomon Kane--of how his grim Puritan adventurer came to be the man he was in the stories. James Purefoy did an exceptional job conveying not only the grimness and the determination of Kane, but the thoughts and actions that led to him becoming such. What bits of CG were in the movie only added to the feel and atmosphere and at the end, they even have a Ray Harryhausen feel, which is a Very Good Thing in my world. The locations, likely in the Czech Republic, really do the talking, here, setting the tale's dreary and gritty tone with perfection.
The DVD itself is extremely bare bones; case, disc with minimal extra features, and that's all. That's OK, because with a movie this good, all I need is a good version of the movie itself and I'm good to go. Was definitely a worthy acquisition!
