You get what you pay for 👍
Sharpening has been something I've had somewhat of an interest in for awhile. I could always get knives moderately sharp. But with not perfecting this skill with the amount of time required, I always struggled to get phone book paper cutting quality.
I tried cheaper guided systems, and didn't get the results I was looking for. I worked with many japanese whetstones, and my apex was always misaligned bc I was not able to provide the precise level of accuracy required with my angles... again, this is something you can learn with time, but I don't really have excess time.
I bought this system after spending hours reading on blade forums and watching Kyle's vids on YT. only regret I have is I would've bought the newer more expensive system. I'm not complaining about the Pro, I just feel I'm already this invested, I may as well go big..
The biggest struggle with this system of you are new to sharpening is properly finding the burr. This is absolutely critical for success with acquiring the wicked edge on your knife. I started with a cheap jeweler's loop, and I find it much easier to use the $16 digital microscope (hooks up to your computer). Although this isn't required, I recommend it highly simply because you may "feel" the burr along the entire apex, but there still maybe parts with the burr missing and your blade will snag. Maybe my fingers are too damn big idk, but verifying you have a proper burr worked up is my biggest advice here. Also YouTube videos are your best friend with learning here (like with any project lol).
This is the first system I've purchased
