No just an awesome wireless router....

I have purchased Linksys networking equipment ever since they manufactured their stackable Cable Modem and Wireless B routers. Ever since that time, they have never let me down (except for a few E series routers I will stay away from) But they finally got this wireless router right because of the many options you now have. 1) It is beefed up with plenty of CPU and on-board memory that makes video streaming/gaming with it awesome. 2) It has MiMO (Multiple In/Multiple Out) technology. This means every wireless device is getting the bandwidth it needs without the congestion. And 3)....the most important...it is built with a chipset that allows for upgrading the firmware to any flavor of Linux you want. What does this mean? Here is a clue. Stock Linksys firmware throttles router bandwidth flow to preserve the longevity of its hardware. However, with customized Linux firmware (Google - Linksys Custom Firmware) you get all the performance/tools of a commercial router and maximize the use of CPU and memory functions. For the consumer interested in getting connected to the web in the simplest way possible, Linksys does a very good job with this product. However, for those gaming with this router, I would highly recommend using custom Linux firmware to reduce lag/packet loss in your competitive gaming on XBOX and PS4 consoles. Besides Belkin buying the Linksys name, my only hope is that Belkin will not touch this great router and remove the great chipset it contains. If they do. I will have to go Netgear for customizing my routers to Linux firmware. Good luck.

    Not for most people

Unfortunately the one I bought kept disconnecting the WiFi (specifically devices on the Wireless could access everything on the private LAN, but suddenly stopped being able to route to WAN, very strange) So that affects my overall rating. Even if the device worked well, the extra $$$ you spend on this one vs. the WRT1900 is going to the 160MHz functionality, which you can't take advantage of right now unless your goal is to bridge 2 WRT3200ACM's together. That and it looks like Linksys has been having firmware trouble since the device launched, so I'm not honestly sure if the device I got was defective or if the design is just shoddy. I'm of the WRT series routers because I thought of them as being robust, but it's clearly not.

  • Stable and dependable router.

Setup was easy, has been running 14 days now NO dropped connections. Easy to install dd-wrt firmware for even more control over the router if desired as I found that the factory firmware did not have all the features that I wanted. This router runs stable with either factory or dd-wrt firmware. Replaced a d-link DIR-885L router that inexpicably got bricked when I enabled QOS feature of the firmware and would not let me reflash using the d-link's emergency flash mode.

  • Powerful and stable.

Great device, holds 3 Apple TV, 4 iPhones, 4 tablets, 4 laptops at the same time. Previous router hanged twice a day and I needed to power cycle it. This one working from installation without any problem. In addition it has 1 Gbps 4 port switch.

  • Router is easy to program for a vpn, but has issues

I purchased this router as it is one of the several that express VPN works on. It was easy to install the VPN firmware on, easy to connect my devices to. One of the biggest complaints that other website reviews has with this router is that it will stop working - devices will lose the ability to connect to or simply the router won't be able to transmit a usable internet connection. I found this issue very frustrating as well and it requires me to unplug the router's power and plug it back in to get it to work. Since then express VPN has updated it's firmware to auto update and will power cycle the router ever morning resolving this issue. The router apparently has this issue whether you are using third party or linksys firmware, which I consider a very big draw back as the router will work for weeks sometimes days until the connectivity issue rears it's ugly head again. Since the new VPN firmware update it now works flawlessly.

  • Webpage layout for user interface sets this router above the rest!

With previous routers that I have used, the numbers and data inputs required some knowledge of what changes they would make. The Linksys smart-wifi takes away the guess work. you do have to explore the icons, but simple to navigate from there! Easily set up VPN server. Easily configure port forwarding. Of course, all this and great wifi range and speeds.

  • Good router, but don't host a VPN on the router

This is a good router with a dual core processor. While it works fine for normal internet use, I bought it to host a VPN on the router. It was recommended as the best router to host a VPN by ExpressVPN, the service that I use. After installing it with the VPN loaded on it, my internet speeds dropped substantially. After contacting ExpressVPN help several times, they told me that it is not the best router for hosting a VPN and gave me a list of other routers that do a better job because of faster processors with more cores. This information was contrary to what ExpressVPN has on its web site. I bought it because of the ExpressVPN recommendation. But for straight, normal internet service without hosting a VPN, this is a great router. I also should post that when I got the router I immediately loaded the ExpressVPN firmware on the router and am using that firmware. I will probably load the DD-WRT firmware on this router and use that firmware without hosting the VPN. One of the strengths of this router is you can use it with several different firmwares that can be downloaded from the internet.

  • Not as good as reviews

When I first connected the Linksys router, the lan port #1 was burnt and not usuable. The WiFi radios didn’t seem strong. My Asus rtac66u reached greater distances and the Asus rtac66u is much older and used. A couple months later, the Linksys wan port burnt out. I was forced to download the Openwrt firmware just to switch one of the lan ports to the wan interface and went through lengthy tutorials to learn how to put a vpn in that router with that firmware.
