Samsung BD J5 700 Blu-ray player review
I like the quality of the picture, and I like the quality of the sound as far as being easy to use, it is easier to use than some of the others I found this particular model I have a little trouble with playing Blu-rays. I wish it was a region free model however, because I have a few DVDs that need a region free player. It'll do ... just about!
First off I should say that I know that ALL machines CAN play from ALL regions but are intentionally programmed not to do so. Bad enough that the remote is illogically designed and that although the device automatically plays DVDs from any region, you have to MANUALLY change the Blu-ray regions (on a poorly laid-out remote). Ridiculous when you reflect that the device sees and adjusts to ALL the DVD regions, but needs your help to distinguish between THREE Blu-ray zones. The manufacturer DOES know better. 15 years ago I bought a Region-free VHS player which automatically recognized ALL zones. Is there some lost technology (NO), are we failing in quality control (YES), or are we too cynical? Well? (Samsung's Region 1 Blu-ray player has exactly the same remote, with the same UN-ergonomic, UN-intuitive control. But that player has a power indicator light which this more expensive machine does not.) So on both the tech and design sides - of the player and the remote - appropriate attention has NOT been paid. Good Value For The Price
The J5700 has a sleek and nearly invisible presence. It plays beautifully and the sound is excellent. It up-converts DVDs to near 1080p quality and plays 5:1 audio flawlessly. It connected to my wifi simply and quickly with just a few clicks and a password. I haven't done much streaming yet but what I have done worked well. It also auto-updates it's software.So far I have only two small complaints. 1. There is no power indicator light. This probably helps with near invisible presence but does not let you know if you left it on when you power off your tv/stereo. 2. As of now it does not get Red Box on Demand, hopefully that will change soon. Over-all a good product and great experience!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

don't lose your remote
This unit depends on the remote. The unit itself only has a power button and an open button. Everything is on screen and is navigated through the remote. To make the task easier of switching tv input the unit tries to take over and tell the tv to select the input for it when you turn on the DVD player. The DVD player signs on to the wifi automatically after the first time when you select NETFLIX. The unit holds a fairly weak wifi signal very well. The batteries I put in the remote were used because I did not have fresh new ones in the house. The remote signal was weak and did not always work. This is why my preference would be a few extra buttons on the box so you could still use it without the remote. This player has a very attractive, black, compact design and style to its casing. It has very good quality playback and the latest software in sensing copyright and reproduction infringement. It has a very convenient remote control and easy setup process. The only feature I wish it had is an on/off LED on the front display to indicate its current power status. Great features
The unit does not have an LED light to show when powered on, but it plays all DVDs and Blurays GREAT! I love the USB feature that allows nearly all media files to be played using an external USB Hard Drive or a USB Flash Drive. Awesome and great price
I had little trouble setting this up as the DVD guides you through the process. Once I got all my passwords straight it was a breeze. The price was great. Samsung fails again
So this fine Samsung Smart Blu Ray DVD Player is touted having 250+ apps. The packaging indicates that the apps are within Opera. Guess what, Samsung has changed the deal and Opera is no longer connected. At best I found just over 100 apps but for me the biggest slam dunk was that I could not use PLEX Media Center. So now I have just a DVD player as my purchase was intended to use my PLEX with this player. Sadly dissappointed - my absolute last Samsung purchase.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Basic Blu-Ray/DVD/online video player
This plays Blu-rays and DVDs satisfactorily and has the most popular online video services pre-installed. It's got a rather compact size and very light. There is no display on the unit of any kind, not even a power LED. WiFi is 2.4gHz variety only, but on this J5700 there is a wired ethernet jack.
