My review of the Tedco Scientific Gyroscope
I got one for the 3 year old I get to play with. I figure if it made such an impression on me when I was 4 or 5, it ought to do that for her too. Same gold and red metal colors I remember and it spins like always, using a string for power spins. I might get a longer string, but I'm not sure if the force would be too great.
It works just like advertised, seems to defy gravity and does things that don't quite seem legit, but they are.
I have not yet set it on a string, but that's a cool trick, and who knows I might even get a second one to try the double gyroscope trick.
While I did get it for the 3 year old, like all gifts for kids, I was going to get my toy time in too lol.
Solid metal, seems to want to stay aligned in the tiny holes the rod spins inside of. It's shiny in a good way. They claim it needs oil from time to time, they probably mean light machine oil, like for longboard bearings, or sewing machines.
Comes in a tiny square plastic box, that I tried 10 times to figure out how to get all that back in and left out the label to get it all to go back in.
I think this instrument/toy/ fun thing has been around for 100 years, or more. I was playing with one in 1961 or 1962. And it can show us, mostly, how things work in spacecraft, rockets, missiles, planes and ships and the like.
I seriously don't see how you can go wrong spending 15 dollars or so on something that will last years, it's all metal and provides not only fun and surprises, but teaches kids and adults about gyroscopes and science.
Along with a good magnifying glass, any good 3 year old would be well on the way to becoming the next Werner Von Braun, or Zefram Cochrane.
