Reviews4 stars out of 5 -- "It's no surprise that KISS OF DEATH finds Lemmy stripping Motorhead back to their remorseless best...", 3 stars out of 5 -- "Lemmy's enduring zeal pays dividends with an album that captures Motorhead's familiar, indomitable grit but plays light and shade with its mood."
Kiss Of Death delivers gritty, bluesy, hard rock & metal sounds as only Motohead can create. It's quite a varied album. Sucker is a sublime blistering speed metal opener with a punk edge to it. God Was Never On Your Side is a crunchy mid-tempo with some great lyrics; and One Night Stand is a beautiful bluesy rocker. This band always keeps the listener interested. Guitars play some heavy riffs on Devil I Know and Trigger, while Lemmy's trademark distorted bass lines lead the charge on Under The Gun. As always, vocals are great and right on target as only Lemmy can deliver. The vocal performances on the mix of acoustic and mystical ballad on God Was Never On Your Side are one of the most unique songs ‘this band has ever recorded. Mikkey attacks his drum kit with plenty of reckless ferocity on the evil sounding Living In the Past and the speedy Sword Of Glory, complete with plenty of Phil’s meaty guitar riffs. Also, Christine plays pure Rock 'n' Roll with a razors edge to them. The down-tuned heaviness and ominous vocals on Kingdom of The Worm evoke memories of obscure cuts like Sacrifice, Assassin and Burner. Flashes of old-school Motorhead shine through on Going Down. This is one of Motorhead's most powerful and heavy albums ever recorded.
