Building upon the Ubisoft addition to Heroes of Might and Magic V, Hammers of Fate requires players to align themselves with one of several different races including the additional Dwarf nation, and then conquer a land of fantasy using both wits and warfare. Elements of empire building, such as exploration and economy, play their roles in this game, but the greatest conflicts are ultimately resolved on the battlefield, through sophisticated turn-based combat similar that of a traditional console tactical RPG, but fought between large battalions that may each contain numerous types of units. As single players, gamers are faced with six sequential campaigns with five missions for each struggle.<br><br>The interface has been rebuilt to be more intuitive and accessible, while still offering sophisticated control. In online games on one of ten additional maps, players can make use of ghost characters to spy and steal resources as their opponents take their turns. Following the storyline set up in Heroes of Might and Magic V, players find themselves caught up in the events unfolding around them after the fall of the Griffin Empire including Queen Isabel's inquisition, the scheming of the Rebels, and the path of the Mountain Lords as they march to war. Heroes of Might and Magic V: Hammers of Fate was developed for Ubisoft by European game-maker Nival Interactive, the creator of successful tactical combat computer games such as Blitzkrieg, Etherlords, and Silent Storm.
