About this product

Product Information

Enter the world of Faxanadu, home to the adventurer with no name. Where many NES games fall into neat categories, “Faxanadu” straddles the line between roleplaying and platform games. Your adventurer begins the game returning to Eolis, his Elven home, only to find it under attack by Dwarves. As the hero, you have to adventure through a series of overworld levels to defeat the Evil One. While much of the gameplay follows standard platform tropes, it also includes many elements of roleplaying games including interactive NPCs. Rather than a save function which the NES does not support, it relies on a series of passwords you have to write down, so you can keep your progress from session to session.

I absolutely live this game! It was one of my first RPG genre game. I was about 5 years old the first time I played it and I loved it so much that I have very clear memories of the game despite that I was so young at the time. It is a must have for video game collectors or anyone who just loves RPG and adventure games! I was lucky enough to find my copy complete in box. The manual is pretty detailed as far as nintendo game manuals go. It has color pictures and goes in to more gameplay detail than you would expect.

Two NES cartridges and manuals arrived as described, all in excellent shape. For items like this, a bubble mailer and one thin layer of wrap is not sufficient protection. The games and manuals could easily have been crushed in transit. I highly recommend they do a better job at packaging.

  • Good role playing game with good graphics.

Graphics are good kinda like adventure of link. The story line seems kinda strange but oh well. Like link you visit towns and talk to folks who give you clues as to what you actually need to do. Without a little guidance it would be hard to know where to go and what to do. Biggest problem is as you progress through the game you can't go back to visit towns you have already visited. All in all a good game that's well worth the average price it sells for.

  • Great RPG for the NES

Faxanadu is one of those hidden gems for the NES, and one of the best RPG-type games available for the console. It's a lot of fun to play with a good balance of challenge and progression. The graphics and music are quite good for its time, with each area having its own unique feel and mood, creating an immersive experience. Your equipment actually shows up on your character, which is a nice touch. The controls are good, with good hit detection for attacks and the fights are satisfying. It uses a password system to save your progress which works well, just snap a photo of the screen with your phone. I never knew about this game until recently and it quickly became one of my favorites! Highly recommended.

  • Much better than expected.

The speed of the delivery was the real amazing part. For 20+ years old, someone took care of this cartridge. There was some writing on the manual, but after 20+ years, that was mildly expected. Very satisfied with their speed and quality, and I would recommend them to friends and other collectors.

  • Faxanadu NES

I owned this game as a boy and gave it to my best friend, along with several other games. He still has it, but I wanted my own again.

  • A gem from the nes era, Faxanadu has its flaws but overcomes them with a solid side-scrolling core!

In Faxanadu, you play a nameless hero who has just returned to his hometown after an epic adventure. Located at the base of the enormous World Tree, the townsfolk immediately tell you that the land has been in a pretty dire state since you left. Although the Elves and Dwarves that inhabited the World Tree lived in harmony before, an evil being from another planet known only as the Evil One arrived one day and corrupted the Dwarves, transforming them into monsters and setting them up against the Elves. Since then, all of the tree's water springs have dried up and all of the towns on the tree's branches have been on the verge of being overrun. A gem from the NES era, Faxanadu has its flaws but overcomes them with a solid side-scrolling core and platforming fun that makes it well worth its occasional agitations.

  • A lesser known classic!

Great adventure game for the NES! A little more straight forward than the Legend of Zelda series, but still a challenge nonetheless. No battery backup for saves, but the password system is really good. Absolutely try it if you want to try something different, or if you're a weirdo that doesn't like The Legend of Zelda series :)
