The Saeco heavy-duty filter eliminates the usual need to tamp the espresso grind because it pressurizes the brewing chamber to produce the same effect. Promoting perfect flavor conditions, the filter only allows water to pass through the coffee grounds at the optimum pressure level. It then releases the water for maximum flavor extraction and a thick golden crema. If you find that you would prefer a creamier drink, set the steam function to not active. If you prefer your milk to be thinner in consistency, a high temperature can reduce the quantity of the cream. This machine allows you to choose your temperature based on thickness or whether you prefer an extremely hot java. You can even make coffee like the pros by warming your cups in advance of pouring or pre-heating the machine by dispensing one cup of liquid without coffee.Its professional Pannarello steam arm accessory, which can be removed, allows users to froth milk. Attached on a swivel, the frothing wand is easy to access. The wand is simply placed into a container of milk. Solid, basic, small footprint, excellent and consistent results.
There are a good number of bad reviews for this machine, and its successor models. I would say an equal number are due to lack of experience in operating these, and the newer, designed-to-fail models. If you have a chance, purchase the older, pre-Philips models, they are made in Italy and designed to last. You should still have good results with newer models, I have both. You must operate, and maintain them periodically if you want good results. Clean with citric acid solution or if necessary, white vinegar - which contains acetic acid, and may etch the components over time. Clean the panarello wand after EVERY use, fill a cup half way with water, and steam the water for a few seconds. Wipe with a damp cloth to sanitize. If the unit runs dry, it will not self prime. Simply open the wand valve and turn on the pump with a receptacle to catch the water. Close the valve and water should come out the filter nozzles. Turn off the pump. Failure to adhere to any of these steps will guarantee eventual non-operational conditions, and appear to be a failed unit to the uninformed user. Fortunately, the system can be easily repaired by the user, restored to normal operation, unless catastrophic damage has occurred due to continued use after initial symptoms, or extreme negligence. Haven't had this machine long but really like it. Makes really good crema! Big improvement over the refurbished Brevilles (3) I've used in the last 6 years. Happy with the simplicity, lack of idiotic beepers and displays. cons: really is made only for shots. It's very important to read the instructions for use and cleaning, as proper care makes a big difference.
