My granddaughter loves this,a brilliant educational toy,it’s outrageous that you have to pay an additional £2.99 to get the caterpillars posted out,should be included in the original price which is also a bit expensive for basically a net! How long have you got ?
Although the advert does state you receive a voucher for the caterpillars you have to go online using your voucher to order the caterpillars and then you are charged postage on top, once you have paid you then have to have to select a date for them to post out, the nearest date I could get was 6 weeks away, this kind of puts a dampener on it for the kids as they have now lost interest in the idea. Fascinating!
My 5 year old son was interested in bugs as he was studying them at school. He kept the caterpillars in his bedroom and checked daily for changes, even taking them to school to show the class. When the day came, we released them and now, each time he sees a red admiral, he says "there's my butterfly!". A brilliant cost effective kit that will teach my nephew many lessons at once!
My nephew loves nature and my sister hates mess. The caterpillars which will then change into butterflies not only teaches him about metamorphosis at a young age but also allows him to interact with something he is passionate about. I was a bit dubious about sending off a voucher to get them but I could do it all online as well! I’m a teacher and know what is coming up in the curriculum and my sister does not like mess. Educational and a good tool for conservation.
Lovely idea. The butterfly mesh 'cage' (don't like using that word!) could be a little bigger though it can be used again. The zip on mind did not work well, but was manageable. It would be good to offer caterpillars of other butterfly species though this would depend on whether the buyer's locality had the suitable habitat for them on release. One of mine hatched a day before the others. My 5yr old grandson loved watching them change and when they where ready to be released he took them into school where the children drew them then watched them fly away.
