EXCELLENT VALUE AND QUALITY
Winsor and Newton Cotman Series Studio Set is a lovely set in a good quality lightweight plastic palette with 12 mixing areas of two different sizes. The mixing areas lay flat and one is detachable supplying ample colour mixing sections. The palette includes a space for brushes that will squeeze in 3 brushes of various sizes. I would suggest the Cotman series of brushes as well, they seems of hold a lot of water and are not overly pricey. I have used the same Cotman brushes for over 15 years. This set includes the full range of the Cotman series of colours with five duplicates of the most used colours, including ultramarine and yellow ochre; the only downside is the addition of two whites and blacks, which I personally don't use. These paints are not artist quality, but they are a well respected long-established brand of good quality. The pans allow for a novice a quality paint at a reasonable price. As a painter might want of explore the artist quality paint from W&N the half pans pop out and can be replaced. This set should last for many years of enjoyable painting. Would not recommend cotmans.
It's not a faulty product. I just do not like cotmans because of how they work. Student grade pigments that doesnt want to flow and are prone to "segment". I personally rather tell people to use other brands if they want a student grade watercolors after have tested several brands. A very compact and practical box of watercolours
I am new to watercolour and bought the Windsor & Newton half pan watercolours with the understanding that they are of high quality. I have used the watercolours for botanical illustrations. The colours are as transparent as one can wish but also vibrant. A very large choice of colours and plenty room to mix the colours in the tray provided. Excellent buy at a very reasonable price. Great variety and quality
I love that Winsor and Newton makes an affordable, pan set that is still small enough to travel or take with you. Although there is ample space to mix with two lids as palette, I don’t use it nearly as much because the colours I want are there...no mixing needed!!!
