Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Godfather: Part III, director/screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola brings a definitive new edit and restoration of the final film in his epic Godfather trilogy-Mario Puzo's THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. The film's meticulously restored picture and sound, under the supervision of American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures, includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues.

  • Better than the original Godfather 3, but still lacking.

Coda feels like an improvement over the original Godfather 3, with a better beginning and an ending that is also more of an emotional and fitting end to the trilogy, but it's still not in the same league as the first two. Pacino is not the same Michael from parts one and two which makes a big difference, and the movie lacks the same overall menacing feeling. The first two are always going to be a hard act to follow, but with Pacino not delivering in the same way and the overall feel being different, as much as it improves on the original Part III, it's still a long way from matching the masterpieces that the first two are. Worth a watch either for the first time or just to see how it compares to the original Part III, but it can also be said that to never watch the final part of the trilogy would probably leave a better memory of the story with you than having seen the final part which may leave a feeling of overall disappointment. With the risk of spoiling the overall memory of I and II, I'd be inclined to say watch at your own risk.
