Beautiful, Heartbreaking & Wonderful, Like Italy!
Family saga that follows four friends and brothers through the tumultuous 60's in Italy, taking you along through the decades, leading to the millennium. I first viewed this film at the Seattle International Film Festival and loved it! Great characters. Rich relationships. All wrapped in this lovely, sentimental score. A great movie & a learning experience all in one DVD package!
I purchased he DVD for my daughter, she takes Italian Honors in High School. She watched this movie in class & loved it so much she asked me to purchase one for her so she could watch it over & over to sharpen her Italian speaking skills. Perhaps not to be watched at one very long sitting, this plays very much like a mini series. Telling the captivating story of middle class Italian siblings, from their late teens onwards until middle age, covering different parts of Italy, from Turin to Sicily, I was thoroughly hooked from beginning to end. It is very well paced, supported by first rate acting with truly believable characters. The only small niggle was the lack of aging among the adult characters, whose appearance in middle age is identical to that of their youthful years. One of my very favourites of this era, or any other. Do not be discouraged by the long length - make a nice pasta with some salad and sit back and watch the 1st half.
