T1 phono SB
We have a more expensive turntable in the room we never use, and an array of vinyl we rarely listen to as a result. I could have just brought that record player into the snug but my amp here doesn't have a phono input and I've run out of electrical sockets for one (plus the expense).
I asked Gill what my budget might be for a turntable with a decent cartridge and a built in pre-amp, hoping she'd say about a grand, SL-1500 here we come! Instead she said '300 quid'.
Well, thanks to sale prices I got myself T1 SB Phono for £285. The extra 15 quid I spent on a clear acrylic platter to maintain the looks.
I don't know where Pro-ject are making a profit. It comes with a £50 cartridge and £45 worth of interconnects. There's a heavy glass platter (hence the acrylic topper), alignment protractor and stylus weight guage. The sound is great, lively and punchy. Tracking isn't brilliant at the end of sides, with noticeable 'spitch', but a stylus upgrade in time wouldn't be expensive (an OM10 would be a £50 option, but above my £300 limit for now...)
All in all I'm delighted. Sounds pretty good and looks great also in 'walnut'.
