Perfect Beagle Den
I had another, smaller, Petmate kennel for my Beagle but she outgrew it. Truth is, she hated being in it even when it was a comfortable size for her. She'd scratch at the door and the walls until she tired out. She needs to be crated when I'm away for any length of time, though, since she'll dig through the carpet (or couch) in her separation anxiety. The local pet society had a number of crates available and, since I was donating her old one, they allowed us to try out theirs. The Beagle wouldn't even enter them - except one. It was about 2 sizes too small for her but she crawled in and curled up all by herself and was content. It was a Petmate Sky Kennel so I searched eBay for one the right size for her and now she has no problem being in it when I'm away -- she even goes in for a rest when I'm home, by choice! The only thing I can think is that there's less openings in it than some of the other ones and maybe it feels more like a cave. I like this one better than many others because the door is very secure yet allows good air flow, the crate itself is solid and doesn't flex hardly at all, and the whole thing disassembles quickly for cleaning.
