14000 BTU Air Conditioner
Wanted an AC unit last year but as it was so hit I couldn't find one fir sale. So I bought this unit off eBay early 2019. The unit arrived. God, it's heavy! However, managed to get it upstairs to our bedroom. I don't know how I managed without an AC unit all these years. 29/07/2019 was the hottest day/night ever an my wife and I slept like babies in a cool room. Next day everyone was sweaty and angry but we were both cool, calm and pleasant. This particular unit cools to a maximum of 17°C, has a heat pump which warms up to 24°C and also has a dehumidifier. Have tried all and they all work superbly. The unit also has a remote control which is a little difficult to use as the display panel is on top of the machine and if you're lying in bed you have to guess what the machine is doing as you can't see the panel. Also, it's a bit noisy. All portable air conditioners are noisy - this I found to be one of the quietest ones around. However, everything is made of plastic so it generates a lot of noises when it's switched on. I have made it super quiet by rolling up a small towel and putting it under the front of the machine. This induces stresses in the casing, making it more taught, therefore, really quiet. If this machine were made of aluminium or some other metal, there would be no noise issue. I suppose if it were engineered better with plastic, it would also be quieter. However, using the towel trick and lots of adjustments, a quiet operation can be achieved. Expected Better
Expected better for the money. Here is my opinion after the first day of use. It is quite noisy as all Aircon units are but this unit could have been better. The extraction pipe is to short and the adaptor for the window outlet is a joke, if you don't have sliding up and down windows the supplied adaptor is useless, My windows open from the side as many new houses have been for the last 20 years so you have to put the pipe out of the window that's ok but flies and spiders come in... The remote control is useless as you cannot see what you are adjusting because the led panel is on top of the unit so you have to be in front of the unit to see what you are adjusting. The led panel needs to be on the front of the unit not on top to be able to use the remote control efficiently, Why should you have to do this as that is the whole idea of having a remote control. The good side is it will be cheaper to heat your rooms up in winter as the heat from the outlet pipe is hot, It cost me £1.75 to leave running all day, That's cheap heating.
