  • Excellent

I'm still going through this long and detailed book. It's a reference book, and I have quite a few others on the subject. It's wild mushroom season here in the Rockies, and another reference book is only a positive. This one covers more mushrooms than inhabit the Rocky Mountains, but is a valuable resource regardless. One thing that some might object to in 2022 and beyond is that the color plates are in a clump instead of attached to each species, but it's an older book and we're somewhat spoiled. Black and white photos are abundant with reference to color plates in the author's view of the most important mushrooms. It's certainly as valuable as the Audubon mushroom book, and that it's in a different format (and that it has MANY black and white photos) is helpful to anyone looking to expand their knowledge on the subject. The companion book "All That the Rain Promises and More" is what led me to this gem. It's an important field guide, and in it's own way, is more important than this book.

  • Mushrooms Demystified book

This book is one of the most excellent books I have ever seen on the subject of mushrooms, and fungi in general. The pictures are most excellent, and the author writes very well (he really knows his mushrooms!) There is a lot of detail included in the description of each mushroom, as well as some personal anecdotes. I have enjoyed reading through this book very much, and it will be invaluable to me in the years to come.

  • Best mushroom guide book you can buy

David Aurora is by far the best author of all mushroom books. His knowledge is vast and his compelling way of explaining things is factual and humourous at the same time.
