Although released in the same time frame as director Peter Jackson's big-budget reinterpretation of the classic 1933 film (and its numerous video game spin-offs), Kong: King of Atlantis is based on the direct-to-video movie of the same title, which was released as a companion to BKN New Media's syndicated television show, Kong: The Animated Series.
