Not quite 'The Best of', more 'the best of what we could find'.
If you're of a certain age, you may remember Tiswas. If you're younger, you'll likely be aware of it, Tiswas was groundbreaking at the time, in that (despite being scripted and arranged) it was presented as total chaos. Modern children's TV owes a huge debt to the show because it did all the things you're not supposed to do and made them fun to watch. This DVD, rather than being 'The best of', is actually a compilation of THREE earlier VHS compilations - Tiswas The Best Bits, Tiswas More of the Best Bits and Tiswas Comedy Capers. You'd be hard pressed, watching each of the presentations in order, to see any difference between the three tapes - they all feature the 'classic era' Tiswas presenter line-up - Chris Tarrant, Sally James, Lenny Henry, Bob Carolgees (with both Spit the Dog and Koff the Cat) and John Gorman. Each 'show' is a compilation largely of sketches, jokes and the features that made each show a hit, with famous faces of years gone by joining in with the madness. Each 'show' also has a slapstick 'high spot' - Sally James getting plastered, Legs and co getting plastered and The Pretenders, getting plastered. The bottom line, if you were/are a fan of the show, you'll find plenty to enjoy here (although there is plenty more Tiswas to be found online that doesn't feature here). If you're new to the show, it gives you a reasonable view of what all the fuss was about, although for the full effect you'd need to track down and watch a complete episode. If you had any or all of the previous videotape releases, here they are again, albeit without any additional features (a 2 disc version with the Tiswas Reunited show from a few years ago would have been a nice option.) Let's just hope that the much touted (and allegedly still in the pipeline) SECOND DVD compilation comes along and adds an air of completion to the project.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
