A special edition of James Cameron's epic account of the world's most famous maritime disaster which is currently the most commercially successful film ever made, and swept the board at the 1997 Oscar ceremony. The Titanic, the most prestigious liner ever to sail the seas, sets off on its maiden voyage in April, 1912. Amongst the passengers are Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and her fianc Cal Hockley (Billy Zane), the heir of a Pittsburgh steel magnate. Rose is less than thrilled at the prospect of spending the rest of her life with Hockley, and contemplates throwing herself off the stern of the ship, only to be persuaded otherwise by fellow passenger, barrowboy Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio).

About this product

Product Information

Featuring spectacular special effects set amidst the backdrop of one of the most tragic events of the 20th Century, James Cameron's award-winning 'Titanic' stands as one of the greatest Hollywood spectaculars of all time. Beginning with an undersea expedition in the 1990s, in which scuba divers are searching the sunken ship for lost relics, a painting of young Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) is found. This triggers a flashback to the young woman's story as it happened on the doomed Titanic. Rose is a daughter of privilege on her way to be married to an arrogant but wealthy young man (Billy Zane). Despairing, Rose finds herself falling in love with Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a carefree and poor young artist who is also aboard. When the great ship strikes an iceberg and begins to sink, Rose and Jack have only each other as their world falls apart around them. Director James Cameron spared no expense in bringing his simple yet powerful love story to life, building a 90 per cent scale model of the ship, fussing over the tiniest details, and ultimately spending some 200 million U.S. dollars. A worldwide smash, 'Titanic' received fourteen Academy Award nominations and 11 wins, including Best Picture. Despite all the lavish sets and special effects, the film would be nothing without the emotional core provided by stars Winslet and DiCaprio, who give star making performances as the tragic young lovers.

  • An unsinkable classic

Titanic is a timeless film that everyone must see once in their lives. After watching it for the first time you will never forget it. It is a film that captures the emotions of love, sorrow, grief and hope. The film benefits from its two leads, Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslett, who give some of their finest, heartfelt performances in this film. Combined with this are the special effects that equally contributed to the film's success. Seeing the ship in all of its glory, right up to the chaotic sinking at the end of the film is a pure spectacle. Seeing the ship go down really brings the tragedy home to viewers. Titanic remains one of the greatest films of all time. Many will be moved to tears after watching it. The film is somehow a romance, a thriller, a horror and a tragedy all at once. The film may well run over three hours, but the story itself is so engrossing that you will barely notice that time going by. This is a must see for all generations.
