Product Information

Driving down a deserted Southern California highway at a safe and sane 55 miles per hour, David Mann (Dennis Weaver) steps on the pedal to pass a large gas trailer truck. Moments later, the truck is back, dangerously tailgating Mann before abruptly cutting him off. For the next 90 minutes, Mann and the never-seen truckdriver are pitted against one another in a motorized duel to the death. Author Richard Matheson conceived Duel after a similar experience with a reckless trucker.

    The limited dialogue imparts an enormous effect!

    Saw this film when first released and still just as gripping! Bearing in mind the very limited dialogue in the film, one can understand why Spielberg became the superb director that he is.

    Bought it because I enjoyed it - if you want a professional critique, pay me.

    One of Spielberg's earliest, based on a story by Richard Matheson. You might think that a seemingly ordinary man being chased by a lunatic HRV driver, which includes a LOT of driving, would be boring. It isn't. Amazing performance by the deadly and frightenly ugly Peterbilt truck, and Dennis Weaver, as the innocent driver, gave a wonderfully human reaction to trying to deal with a maniac. Good early signs of Spielberg's geniius.
