Being new to RC and a huge fan of the Escort Cosworth this seemed a good starting point. Having had experience with Tamiya kits in the past through scale modelling, I believed this would have the same style of fitment and easy to follow instructions and I was correct. YouTube helped a lot by watching various build videos beforehand and finding out through them that the plastic bearings included within the kit are pointless and you need a relatively cheap sealed metal bearing set instead, which are available at extra cost (Bought mine through eBay £7) . The videos mentioned filling some gaps in the base with hot glue to prevent stones collecting and hindering the steering so I did this to mine too, I decided that I wanted a rally car body style so a set of decals and different paints where ordered (again through eBay). The build was straight forward but the electrics where tricky, more YouTube and it was done.. first impressions, this isn’t a rally car despite me trying to turn it into one, the tyres are for tarmac and the car is quite low to the ground even on the higher setting, meaning it gets grounded quite easily when travelling over rough terrain, it will go over grass providing it’s quite short but the lumps and bumps of my lawn have me walking to the car to move it every so often. I’ve taken it into a gravel filled space and given it a good slide around, the dust gets everywhere inside the car as it’s open, a separate dust cover is available though an aftermarket manufacturer and if you plan on power sliding though gravel then that’s probably a good idea to get one. However the chassis is quite delicate a decent crash into the garage wall after a week of ownership required me to purchase spare parts in order to have it running again, the lower arm bush popped out and wouldn’t bind as it did before so any large bump uncoupled the bottom joint and you had to push it back in before you could go again. This I know is not really what the car is intended for and given ample flat land it would probably last a good while longer than the week I killed mine in. Things will wear out over time so be prepared to spend cash on maintenance and every time you take it out nip up the screws, without thread locker the screws will work loose and parts disappear. There are lots of upgrades available too and searching online the original sprue’s that are supplied in the kit can be purchased from various people so if you loose or break parts you can get more either genuine or aftermarket. On the whole I would recommend this kit for a beginner and even though it needed to be repaired I put that down to me not using it as intended.
