About this product

Product Information

'Driven by voice; musical, wild, playful and furious. I was in awe of the author.' Sofie Laguna In this unnamed city, to be interesting is dangerous. Middle sister, our protagonist, is busy attempting to keep her mother from discovering her maybe-boyfriend and to keep everyone in the dark about her encounter with Milkman. But when first brother-in-law sniffs out her struggle, and rumours start to swell, middle sister becomes 'interesting'. The last thing she ever wanted to be. To be interesting is to be noticed and to be noticed is dangerous. Milkman is a tale of gossip and hearsay, silence and deliberate deafness. It is the story of inaction with enormous consequences.

  • A difficult read, but worth it in the end.

It was a very different type of novel, demanding considerable concentration. Having nothing with names, people, places, it was quite a difficult read, but more or less worth it in the end.

  • The Milkman

Only read a little bit. Hated the style of writing, really hard to just pick up and easily read. Won’t be attempting it again. We chose it for our book group and nobody liked it, only one person finished it!

  • Hard work

Finding it a really dull read. There are nuggets of interest about growing up in N Ireland but you have to wade through dense amounts of text to find them.

Couldn't get into this story --the characters have no names - sister no 1 -brother in law etc strange
