  • Funky and punky all at once. Great old school music.

Have owned this on vinyl since it first came out. What an album, it inspired so many of todays musicians. Vinyl was getting a bit worn out so i updated with a cd. Saw them tour this album back in 2017. Even with some personnel line ups, it sounded as good as ever. If you love bass in your music, then this is the album for you. It inspired Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to play bass.

  • A classic Post Punk album that defines the genre.

GO4's first album. This could easily be confused as a greatest hits album as there are so many tracks that formed part of the GO4 set, right up until last year's tour of Europe and Asia. RIP Andy Gill

  • A seminal post-punk neo-Marxist album

Marred by fairly weedy lead vocals, this was originally released in 1979 and has become a classic first album for the Gang of Four. Distorted guitar, feedback, disjointed dual vocals, pounding bass lines and a solid drum performance distinguish the record from anything else recorded at that time. Gang of Four were championed by John Peel but the group clashed with the BBC, being banned from performing "At Home he's a Tourist" on Top of the Pops and having "I Love a Man in Uniform" blacklisted from play during the Falklands War. They influenced a variety of bands including Red Hot Chili Peppers and R.E.M. It's strikingly good music but really jars with your senses on first listen. Three bonus tracks have been tacked onto the original release, two of them from Gang of Four's next LP release "Solid Gold".
