About this product

Product Information

Stephane Audran plays Babette, a 19th century Parisian political refugee who seeks shelter in a rough Danish coastal town. Philippa (Bodil Kjer) and Martina (Birgitte Federspiel), the elderly daughters of the town's long-dead minister, take Babette in. As revealed in flashback, Philippa and Martina were once beautiful young women (Hanne Stensgaard and Vibeke Hastrup respectively), who'd forsaken their chances at romance and fame, taking hollow refuge in religion. Babette holds a secret that may very well allow the older ladies to have a second chance at life.

It's a film. Read the reviews on IMDB

Thought this a rather a strange request - review the DVD I bought. It's a product review and thus you'd expect it to be about the physical quality of the item. But I'm asked a weird mix of product review and film criticism. Q1: Is it good value? Q2: Is it entertaining? Q3: Are the characters engaging? Ebay should drop this meaningless nonsense.

    Babette's Feast (English version)

I know this film having seen it many years ago when it first came out; and in speaking of it to a friend I thought that I would like to see it again. Was rather disappointed that it was dubbed or at any rate had an English soundtrack. I much prefer subtitles as it enables a film like this to establish a sense of place and character which is missing. Shall not be watching again in this form, but anyone who dislikes / can't handle subtitles will be able to see a good story at any event

  • Super little film

A very unusual little film - watch it with no preconceptions and you will enjoy it. It has subtitles but they do nothing but enhance the story.....
