About this product

Product Information

Walt Disney took a big chance with this ambitious anthology of animated fantasies. First, he set them to lengthy classical music pieces, and then he boldly experimented with different forms of animation, sometimes jettisoning any sort of narrative altogether. The result is a sometimes mesmerizing, sometimes hilarious, sometimes frightening, but always beautiful moviegoing experience. A box-office failure when first released, it's now considered a timeless treasure. Highlights include: Mickey Mouse in 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice', the leaping hippos and alligators in 'Dance of the Hours', the rise and fall of the dinosaurs set to Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring', the dancing mushrooms of Tchaikovsky's 'Nutcracker Suite', and Mussorgsky's 'Night on Bald Mountain', with its fearsome winged demon raging at the heavens.

Though the film was regularly rereleased, it wasn't until 1999 that his intention was finally realized with the premiere of FANTASIA 2000, a lavish follow-up that included a digitally restored Sorcerer's Apprentice and a host of new material. The original FANTASIA, however, remains a one-of-a-kind auditory and visual experience that is still, in many ways, far ahead of its time.

  • Slightly weird film but son likes some of it.

Film is somewhat bizarre and son finds parts s bit scary. I assumed Micky mouse would be funny and lighthearted but that's not the case. Bit disappointment but perhaps I was naive about what the film was about and how dark it was in places.

  • What's not to like about the proper Walt Disney

its an enjoyable way for children to enjoy classical music, this is from a time when it was the proper Walt Disney innocent and entertaining not like some of the things they pass off as Disney now

  • Oldie but Goodie

This may not be the newest release but it stands the test of time. Using images with classical music the beginning is a little slow but it gets much more interesting as it goes on. There is humour, a little fear and of course an uplifting ending. Good for children and adults alike.

  • Naaa

Can't really recommend it just a load of endless trailers for other DVD's you can't fast forward them on and on the film is mostly lurid patterns and then a bit of Mickey mouse, turned it off
