About this product

Product Information

This suspense thriller about a daring plot to murder Charles De Gaulle is based on Frederick Forsyth's best-seller. The movie's suspenseful pace is tied to the incredibly careful and intricate planning the man code-named "the Jackal" does in preparation for the hit. This classic was watered down and remade in 1997 as The Jackal.

  • Grest movie - some drama lost in cutting minutes

Running time on imdb is 143 mins. Running time for this dvd is 137 mins. I noticed there were much fewer bullets shot at de gaulle in the end sequence. I felt those extra shots added significantly to the drama of the closing sequence.

  • Classic.

Classic 1970's film set in the 1960's far better than the remakes imho, although the book gives the best picture !

  • Fantastic

Brilliant film, good story, excellent chapters, intrigue and drama. Only annoyance is the print is non amorphic wide-screen.

  • Still riveting.

Although this is an old film, it is still very watchable. Frederick Forsyth is an excellent writer, and several of his stories have been adapted for films.

  • Brilliant!

Loved the film first time around, perhaps a little dated now but still an excellent view Gripping all the way through, will he, won’t he, even though we know the ending!

  • A thriller worthy of the name

Excellently constructed and filmed plot, moving around Europe - credible, given the period, and based on fact. Many of the characters existed in real life, and were pretty much as represented - but who was The Jackal? Well worth repeat watching, with an eye to detail - always something to catch up on. It really is a 5-star film.
