fast paced action with the politics left in

this is an early sci fi classic but im biased bcos i always liked future sports stories in my comics when i was growing up but even though they cane after this and were probably inspired by it, i watched this after i read them. its action packed fast paced and the story flows well but later editions have removed a lot of the political elements that were put into the story, like when all the rich geusts at a house party get drunk and destroy some trees just because they can, like a lot of films in the 1970s they were very honest they didnt pull any punches, so rollerball does get brutal in some scenes and it was criticised at the time bcos of this but i feel those were needed in order to get the point across that the people who were in control of teh game would stop at nothing to get their point across, they remade it about 2004 but they took all the politics out and just made it about the game and there was another similar remake future sport in the 1990s with dean cain in it and they are both good films in their right but i feel they have to be judged standalone bcos they dont stand up to the original

Too long. Indulgent editing. Still enjoyed it, though.

Dated. Not quite as good as I remembered it. My son was bored and left a third of the way in. This was ground-breakingly rough stuff in it’s day and still packs a punch, but there is a listlessness about it, as though it wasn’t quite decided on where it was going and the party scenes go on too long.

  • Looking at 2018 from 1975 perspective

The film is about the future where there are no wars violence etc it is a game where the winners rule its entertainment at it's best and it is based on the future of 2018 pity there prediction wasn't right great film
