  • On The Cutting Edge of Medieval Research

    R. Ewart Oakeshott has remained one of the major sources on this subject and this book amply demonstrates his tirelessly consistent efforts to refine that knowledge. In his previous volume on the subject, The Sword In The Age of Chivalry, Oakeshott established the main classifications for all of the medieval sword types and cited surviving examples, whether actual or in the art of the times, for each. In Records of the Medieval Sword, that information has been revised and expanded, often based from his re-examination of swords from the last book. In all, for those interested in the subject, this book is a must-have contribution. I can wholeheartedly recommend it, not only for its content but also as a good value.
