Based on Jane Anderson's play "Looking For Normal," this deeply moving drama tells the story of Roy (Tom Wilkinson), a small town Illinois man who makes a wild declaration after blacking out on his 25th wedding anniversary. Stunning his wife Irma (Jessica Lange), his kids, and the entire community, Roy announces that he's convinced he's a woman trapped in a man's body, and plans on going through with a sex change. What follows is a poignant, heartbreaking, and ultimately uplifting, story of Roy's attempt to live a normal life in a society that is unable to come to terms with his revelation. A film everyone should see again and again. Especially should be seen by those who stand in judgment of those who were born differently. A man who has lived his life in turmoil and prepares for trans surgery. The reactions of family, co-workers, pastor are also the focus of this film. Tom Wilkinson is sheer perfection in this role.

A wonderful movie about the struggle of a mans' choosing to wear womens clothes.
A well-done movie on a sensitive topic of male cross-dressing. Women had to fight for the "right" to wear pants over 100 years ago. Men are sadly judged and ridiculed when they want to show emotions or their feminine side. This is a wonderful movie, honest and full of warmth. namaste', rachel
