Presented almost entirely in song and narrated by Antonio Banderas as a fictional everyman, the film charts the alternately revered and reviled Evita's rise from poverty to become a film and radio actress; her relationship with President Juan Per�n (Jonathan Pryce); and her tragic death from cancer at age 33.Banderas, a surprisingly moving singer, and the inimitable Madonna, who took voice lessons before filming commenced to expand her vocal range, provide the emotional bedrock for the eminently enjoyable film with their charismatic screen presences. The music, including the Oscar-winning song "You Must Love Me," weaves an entrancing web, and the sets and costumes are awe inspiring. Parker does a fine job of adapting Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical for the big screen. The director's vision shines clearly here: Like PINK FLOYD: THE WALL, EVITA is an enchanting mixture of epic fairy tale and sociopolitical psychodrama.

Don't cry to me, Argentina
I love this movie. The story is entertaining, the scenes dark and moving. Madonna tells a well played story of a woman driven by fear, loneliness and yes, greed. The music and lyrics will stay with you, the story will haunt you. Prepare to Google everything about Eva Duarte you can find.

Madonna's promise was well-kept.
This synopsis of Argentinian politics starts with a subtle opening about Eva Duarte that is easily missed, and it illustrates the perseverance (some would say opportunism required of Eva to climb out of her modest circumstances. The photography is good, and it captures the spirit of mass demonstrations. A key feature of this movie for me, however, is Madonna's singing. I was never a fan of either her image or her singing. Many Argentinians were outraged when she got the part of Eva Perone. Madonna answered the demonstrations by pledging to honor the image of Eva Perone. Both Madonna's Eva-image and Madonna's singing are wonderful and a total counterpoint to her concerts at the time. Listening to the soundtrack through headphones shows how technically skilled she rendered her phrases. She absolutely kept her pledge to the Argentinian people.

Very interesting story in history. Although I've never been a Madonna fan I loved her in this role, and her singing was tops.

Very unengaging movie
I was aware it was a musical but the whole movie was just singing and no talking to explain or engage the plot. Very boring. But since it was cheap no big deal but would not recommend it.
