Frenhofer (Michel Piccoli), a renowned French artist, hasn't lifted his brush in years. La Belle Noiseuse
If you can get past the four hour running time, this is a very engaging movie. I have not seen the "other" film created from the original footage, "Divertimento", but if this movie seems too lengthy in one sitting, it can be viewed in two almost equal parts. The first disc is roughly half the running time and the second is more or less the same length. Be aware, one has to be in the mood to see an arthouse film, not an action feature. It does an especially astonishing job of making a nude, very attractive actress into a model in which it is very normal, practically boring to see her fully frontal naked body throughout the course of the movie.

Disappointed that it's not Blu-Ray.
Great Movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It did not seem overly long for a four-hour movie. Still, any movie about art and artist should be seen in the best quality possible. I wasn't paying attention when I bought this and was disappointed when it arrived. Blu-Ray versions are available for this movie.

Good Movie for Emmanuelle Beart Fans
I am an artist (painter) and have always been a big Emmanuelle Beart fan. So this movie was a must to see. I first watched it on VHS back in 1999-2000 as a video rental form a local video store. So it was nice to finally be able to get a copy of this movie on DVD all these years later. Good movie about the creative process and the struggle with trying to create a work of art with feeling and soul.
