  • Best kit lens ever

It would truly be a misnomer to call this a kit lens. I've been a Fujifilm X series camera user since the series inception in 2012, since then owning and using most of the cameras and probably more than half of the lenses produced. I chose the Fujifilm system after more than 40 years of both film and digital photography from the smallest to the larger medium frame formats. On retirement I wanted a light compact system for everyday photography which the Fujifilm system fitted the bill. For the most part I preferred primed, but for convenience I also wanted a standard zoom. I've used all the Fuji zooms, 16-50, 16-55, 16-80, 18-135 (not the 15-45), but I keep coming back to the 18-55. This lens is well made, produces excellent results, is easy to use, has good image stabilization. With the latest Fuji X cameras the autofocus is adequately fast, probably as fast and as accurate as all bar the 16-55 F2.8 lens. It is not excessively noisy but I'm not a videographer and I can't really comment on "focus pull". In camera adjustment no doubt compensates for any distortion and vignetting but little softening of the image sharpness in the corners is apparent, but again I'm not a pixel peeper, and providing you stop down to say f5.6 your not going to notice any real difference in image quality using this lens over the more expensive pro f2.8 standard zoom. As noted above I've also used the "super zooms" and while generally pleased with the results they are significantly bulkier and less convenient to use. I found that I rarely extended the zoom more than 70mm, and their additional weight was not worth their added convenience. Also their generally smaller apertures when used at the longer focal lengths meant they were not so useful as my 55-200 zoom. Overall the f2.8-4 maximum aperture of this lens more more than adequate for my purposes, and the excellent image stabilization coupled with the improved low light abilities of the latest sensors and processors at high (1600-3200 ISO) speed ratings, negated the need for the larger f2.8 aperture zoom lens. However if pressed, I would suggest for ultimate results and for weather resistance the f2.8 performs particularly well with the X-H1, but now you're really looking at a much heavier combination more akin to a full frame outfit, which somewhat obviates the main reason for selecting an Fuji X system set-up in the first place. Therefore I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone wanting a lightweight good value lens, and believe for many photographers it would be a great acquisition as their main universal and possibly only lens they'll need. (Since reacquiring this lens for a 3rd time, I now recognise my earlier mistakes in previously selling this lens!)

  • Decent all rounder.

I've seen some photographers raving about this lens on You Tube. Maybe they are aware of something I'm not. To me, while it is a fairly fast lens and general image quality is good to very good. If you are close to your subject it can struggle to focus in some situations and maybe be a little bit soft in others. In saying all that, it is a versatile and well built lens.

  • Superb compact all rounder.

A superb, all round, everyday or event lens , where you don’t have time to chop and change primes. My daughter has this for her Fujifilm XE3 which is a great match because, as advanced as that lovely little camera is, it does not have in body stabilisation. The lens does, so it works very well in low light, as long as the subject is relatively still. I nearly bought a second one but thought it would make sense to try out the 16-55mm f2.8 a try on my XT4 (no lens OIS but IBIS compensates for this). Get a clean, pristine, used copy and you won’t lose a penny and if it’s not for your case use, and you decide to sell it on.

  • EXCELLENT KIT LENS!

Anyone who has researched the Fujifilm line of products will know the XF 18-55mm is supplied as a kit lens with many of its X mount mirrorless cameras. It's a superb lens, providing good image quality, even in low light situations, and more or less a must have part of any kit if you have a Fuji camera body that takes X mount lenses!

  • An extraordinary lens.

An extraordinary lens. It arrived well packed and on time. The lens is so sharp that I am changing my camera body - for a Fuji with a larger viewfinder. I sold other lenses to afford this one and I have no regrets.

  • Great lens

Excellent medium range zoom lens. Well constructed but light weight to have on my X-T1 or X-T20 all day. Fast focusing with sharp and detailed images makes this an ideal lens for street and social photos. Highly recommended!

  • As good as you've probably heard

Great, well-built lens, definitely not a 'kit' lens in any of the usual senses. Sharp, good colour rendition and contrast, in-lens optical image stabilisation is good, only real thing it lacks is weather resistance. Sample images taken from the raw files, resized and saved to jpeg - no art to them, just dashed off a few at the local park for this review

  • Great lens

Without doubt the best standard kit lens I’ve ever used. There is nothing standard about it. Sharp images throughout the full range and very fast autofocus.

  • Fujinon XF 18-55mm lens

Was recommended this lens by Fujifilm themselves for doing light trail photography- can’t get better recommendation than that! Read up on what others say and it’s a good lens and I wouldn’t disagree 😊👍🏻

  • Bought this lens to get my Fuji X-T1 up and running. Borrowed a prime first and did some comparisons between the two lenses. 18 55 is incredibly sharp
