    Good stuffe

Ecobee is a terrific company with an excellent product - This Product. If you know about HVAC and electricity, then you should have no problems at all. For ALL other users: (1) RTFM. End to end. More than once. Call ecobee with any questions. Most everything is in the manual, but not always where you might expect to find it. (2) After RTFM, consider your comfort level with DIY. If you don't mind poking around wires and expensive equipment, in basements and attics full of dust and crawly things and smelly water and other debris, then have at it. If you have even the SLIGHTEST DOUBT, then it is far, far cheaper to pay a qualified mechanic to do the job for you. It's not just labor, nor even skill + know-how – it is insurance. If you know what a new HVAC system costs, then you know how much insurance you are buying for an hour or two of a mechanic's time. Not cheap, but, really, worth it. That could double the cost to get one of these set up. But once you do, you will love it for how well it does its job. Lastly, there are cosmetics to consider. It took me 8 hours to install mine - I had to patch and paint to make the wall look good. So - the product is usually a DIY project and fairly quickly done, unless you need a new wire. But do consider the whole project and plan accordingly.

    Professional Setup required

If you setup a nest and thought this was as simple unfortunately it is not. The nest does not require you have a common wire for simple installation. For the ecobee if you don't have one you are required to install a power extender kit on your ac panel. This is no simple task so I returned mine and switched back to Nest.

  • Acurate T-stat that is very easy to setup and use.

Excellent materials; extremely easy to use. Display is easy to read and understand and very intuitive. Installation was a breeze (as long as you have the required 'C' connection). The sensors (both in the main unit and the remote unit) are very accurate and the HVAC system responds to it very well. Overall, I am very pleased with the entire operation and would recommend it... in fact, I am considering purchasing another for the second floor of my house (it has a separate HVAC unit).

  • Great remote access thermostat

You don't really appreciate the benefit of this relatively expensive thermostat until you control it remotely. Being able to adjust it while on your way home or in bed during the night is worth the price alone. While it needs more customization settings, the interface is easy to use and view. The current temp is always visible even from across the room and a detailed view (outside temp, adjustment bar) comes as soon as you step in front. But the feature that really sets this thermostat apart is the remote sensor. Being able to have the overall temp adjust to an important remote location (master bedroom) to the central unit (den) is invaluable. Now we don't "burn up" sleeping while the den is cool. It's expensive but the remote access, remote sensors, ease of installing & using helps pay for itself.

  • Come home to comfort!

We alernate one week at home & one week at the cabin. Hated coming home to heat in the summer & cold in the winter. Now we shut off the AC to save $ but return to comfort using WiFi. As a process control engineer, I appreciate the historical charts to monitor performance & to improve efficiency. Separate temperature & fan controls with unlimited comfort settings gives me the flexibility I need. Use of the remote sensor that senses occupancy allows me to optimize comfort in our bedroom at night. Android phone app & iPad homekit functions are quite acceptable. System provides alerts to change air filters, remote sensor dropout, etc. Best Intelligent Consumer-grade Thermostat, bar none.

  • Loving it so far

We have a propane stove to heat our cabin, that uses a low-voltage (millivolt) thermostat. With the old thermostat, there were wild swings in temperature in our place. However, I didn't know whether I'd be able to get the ecobee3 working right with a non-24VAC system like mine. It arrived, and with some Googling I found various solutions... the simplest was using the cooling circuit to power the ecobee3 with a sprinkler control power supply (24VAC), and using the separate heater circuit for the millivolt system. It works flawlessly! I love the user interface, simple and easy to use. The apps are great, and the remote thermostat seems to work great as well. It keeps the place at a much more even temperature! I am pleased with this device and am planning to buy another for a different zone.

  • Convenient and simple

The ecobee3 was an awesome purchase. I absolutely love that I can tell it to use the sensor in my main floor or upstairs or both and I can get additional sensors if I want. It's nice to be able to set a temperature range and have heating or cooling be turned on automatically. You can also tell it to run your fan a set number of minutes per hour to keep the temperature consistent and refreshed between floors. It's integration with Siri is good not great but is much better than nothing. It doesn't seem to learn your tendencies to change it like a nest does. I'm not sure how it will affect my energy bill but it doesn't seem to do anything to reduce it since it is just using the schedule I put in like I did on my old manual one. Using the IFTTT app you can automatically set it to home or away based on your location but the ecobee app doesn't support this natively. I would call this a wifi thermostat not a smart thermostat since it doesn't seem to do anything besides be controlled over wifi. I definitely love being able to turn up the heat when I'm cold in bed though so I'd recommend it! Make sure you check online for rebates because you may be able to get quite a bit of money back from energy companies!

  • Ecobee3 Wifi Thermostat

One of the best tool necessary to manage your cool/heat monthly usage specially in the southern region of the country (Florida). Your monthly savings at your finger tips while teaching you basic AC is an understatement. We have a 4,000 sq ft home and this thermostant allows me to create AC zones by utilizing individual sensors and controlling individual effectiveness - we have a total of 9 sensors around the house that monitors temperature / motion in each room. Home IQ to provide you real time data with countless graphs that provides useful information. Thank you

  • Ecobee3 smart life

Hello, I installed the thermostat myself with out any training. It was easy to do and took 30 mins. I had two up and running in 45 minutes. Only issue is I was out of touch up paint for my wall even with the big back plate. Favorite part is the remote sensors. My only complaint is that it does temp calculations are is Celsius then it back converts it to Fahrenheit. This means for me I had to lower the display temp one degree to get the same comfort level of my old thermostat.

  • Switched from Nest to Ecobee to get HomeKit support - happy with the choice

This smart thermostat hits the sweet spot for me - lots of capabilities without built in speaker or lights of the later model. Functions well with HomeKit - not interested in Alexa. Replace a Nest v2 with this one - just as good, plus the remote sensors.
