Quality product that does the job

High quality design/build. Initial set up instructions could be clearer - took some time to get master node to talk to my Sky router using supplied Ethernet cable but 2nd and 3rd nodes set up in minutes with no Ethernet cables, guiding me where to get best signal strength. Having read previous reviews I deliberately over-spec’d with a triple pack ( my bungalow is 2,300 sq. feet ) but excellent coverage including drive out front and rear patio and garage. I have no regrets in spending a bit more for 3rd node, quality and reliability.

  • Most critical review

They work, but if you can, choose some other mesh system.

The Velop range of mesh wifi systems is long established, and if you already have some then (as I did) buying some more to fill in gaps in mesh coverage is a good idea. The Velop mesh system works well: once it is set up it tends to just work, and if you have issues the Velop customer support system is good - Linksys certainly try to ensure you are happy with the product. But my recommendation is that if you you can buy something else then do. A quick look at the Velop community support site will indicate that there are many unresolved issues with this system. For example to work, the Velop routers need good connections between each base station - without this the network the base stations create is unreliable and slow. But there is no sensible method offered for determining whether the base-stations are close enough together - and it turns out the allowable distance between base units is *small* (unless you wire them together using ethernet cable). To get reliable connections across my small two-storey house I ended up having to put in six base stations... It would seem other mesh products (e.g. Orbi) don't have the same problems, and are therefore a possibly a better option.

  • Good when it works, but...

It's good when it works. We bought the 3 pack for our house mostly because the standard Vodafone router doesn't generate a decent wifi signal. However, although the setup procedure is simple, it's achingly slow and each node takes longer than the last. That would not be too bad but when the router goes down (or a teenage daughter unplugs a node!) the Velop does not automatically reconnect so the whole setup has to be repeated. We do now have seamless wifi all round the house, but I don't feel I would recommend this system.

  • Great product for an old house with brick inner walls.

Takes some setting up. App could be better, but has improved with the recent updates. Works well and pick up wifi in garden and on drive now! Bought to replace a system of 3 routers with different ssid which was a pain to use.

  • Linksys velop

The functionality is great, but in our new house with a combination of reinforced concrete walls and floors the range is very limited. The maximum transmission is through one wall or floor. So this has ended up being a very expensive wifi solution for a 2200 sq ft house - we needed 5 towers to cover the whole house over 3 floors.

  • Brilliant wifi mesh system

These were voted best on a number of sites so i bought them. Works perfectly well with good telephone support. You can control and monitor the nodes via an app. A great piece of equipment if you have bad wifi signal around your house. A bit pricey but worth it

  • Great product with minor complaint

Have been using it for 4 days now. Simple installation, great reliability so far. Not a single problem so far. I live in a 2-story house made of brick, mortar and concrete. Ground floor is open space. Master node is in a main wiring closet on ground floor with direct connection to router. One child node is on ground floor, 4-5 m away from master node. Second child node is upstairs on the hall, almost directly above child node on ground floor (wirelessly connected to child node). Child nodes are wireless, currently no backhaul. With original router I got max. wifi speed of about 200/15 (5 out of 25 measurements) Mbps but through most of the day I got about 50/15 Mbps (20 out of 25 measurements). And it covered only about half of ground floor. Now anywhere on ground floor I get from 250-350 Mbps of download and 15 Mbps of upload. At the furthest point of 1st floor (10 m from node, 2 walls and 2 closets in between) I get 70/8 Mbps (this is currently the slowest internet in my house). Very happy with the result so far. Software has limited usability. Light on nodes cannot be programmed to turn off at night which is a shame. Such a small tweak and it would mean a lot to most users. Also fully-featured parental controls should be included.

  • Easy to set up, fast system

This was easy to set up using the app. I actually had an issue as I made a mistake and I went to the ‘live chat’ help people who corrected my error, very quickly! System is great and much more ‘reach’ through the house and walls than I thought it would have!

  • Great Product

Apart from a couple of installation issues that were probably exacerbated by my original wireless configuration we managed to successfully add the 3 nodes to another already installed Velop network. Good installation/administration app aided the process all units now stable and offering excellent WiFi coverage around the house.

  • Coverage throughout the house

I live in a house with Bath Stone walls and they absorb wifi like a sponge. I had had repeaters in various rooms, but our phones found it difficult to keep track. Now it is excellent with coverage in every room and transfer without problems. The only thing that should be mentioned is that the set up takes a little time, but it is worth it. I fully recommend this system.
