    Well worth owning it to see now and again

    This Historical Adventure give Cromwell a political chance to tidy up his part in the unbelievable act of regicide many so called supporters were very uncomfortable with this, at the time even members of Cromwell's inner Family were saying your going to far and put a stop to it, the film pick's and choses a date line, But "Richard Harris has a gritty approach to being Cromwell, as for Alex Guinness Superb even looking with out heavy makeup like the king himself, the sets for this film were at the time the biggest ever costructed in summery Great Film.

This is a longer edit than is generally shown on tv, with more battles, and a little more on Cromwell's iconoclastic low-church motivations. Richard Harris is exceptional as Cromwell, Guinness is reliable as Charles I. Tutin gives a brief, but telling, performance as the iron-willed Catholic and royal absolutist, Queen Henrietta Maria. The colour picture quality is medium good.

    Superb film, Richard Harris is magnificent.

    Richard Harris excels himself in Cromwell. He should have been nominated for an Oscar - you cannot take your eyes off him on screen. Alec Guinness is also brilliant as the doomed King Charles 1. The supportting cast are also the cream of gifted actors: Robert Morley, Charles Gray, Patrick McGee, Frank Finlay. They don't make films like this any more - see it.
