  • Poignant Memoir

Poignant memoir on the challenges, difficulties, frustrations, emotional highs and lows of caregiving her parents during their elder years, decline and death. She captures their personalities, their parenting of her as a child and their resistance to help as they aged. Roz writes with humility and honesty, all in her unique comic drawing style. I bought this one for my octogenarian mother, who also loved it.

  • A heartfelt, comforting memoir of inevitable loss

This memoir by a daughter of her parents' final days is different from the many others I've read, because it is so poignantly and aptly illustrated. Sadness and laughs are intermingled on the pages that reveal both Chast's frustrations and tenderness as she accompanies her parents on their final journeys. I bought copies for two friends who also needed that combination of smiles and tears. The author lets us know we are not alone on this trip. If only there were something more pleasant.

  • Very different, riveting, funny, sad and struck a chord with me.

A professional cartoonist presents her experience caring for her old parents during their last years. It's made up mostly of cartoons, but includes hand-written text and photographs as well. I know it must have helped her emotionally to write it and it pleased me to read it. I have gone through this universal experience too but never could have made it into art!

  • Considering A Place for Mom and Dad?

Uplifting, true and hilarious. Roz Chast’s is my surprise favorite book for dealing with “the end."

  • True to experience.

It was a gift for a friend who is going through a similar experience in taking care of her aging parent. She says she couldn't lay it down. She loves it!

  • Great graphic novel at an unbeatable price

Thanks! I wanted to own a copy of this book to share with friends. As boomer parents age and lose their grip, it’s nice to know we’re not alone.

  • Recommended to me, and I recommend it to people with aging parents who like humor.

Great insight and humor about life as parents age and pass.

  • About Chast's parents demise and her frustrations dealing with and coming to terms with that.

While not better than I expected, as a fan of Chast, it's an interesting documentation of her trials dealing with her parents' aging and ultimately dying.

  • Perfect

Great for parents caring for elderly parents while still raising their own children. Also, Brooklyn nostalgia.
