    This is a nice printer

I have had several canon printers, 3000, 4200, 4300, 4850 . All failed eventually with print head problems. This is canon's only printer only (not all-in one). I wanted to be able to print on CDs. It works well, albeit a bit of a rigmarole for the first page as noted by others but quiet and quick after that. Previous models had a paper feed from the top as well as the bottom cassette, very handy for printing on card. You cannot do that with this which is a disappointment. Cartridges are the same as my MG5550 which is a bonus. This particular printer came with 3 sets of (compatible inks), very nice but surprised that those replaced the original set which Canon would have included. Never the less still very good value. A very useful printer that would have been even more so if it had a top feed for the paper.

  • Most critical review

    Lose the will to live

Pros: easy set up (W10 - perhaps I was lucky!), prints look fine, double sided printing (though it picked up multiple sheets first time I tried it), uses ink tanks so ink can be very cheap with refill ink (this is the main reason I sought out this model) Cons: large footprint, interminable chuntering before and between print jobs, longer than any other printer I have ever used. No one will convince me this is necessary or serves any purpose, and I suspect it wastes a lot of ink and hastens the day to the dreaded "Ink absorber full" message. Unless you regularly have print runs of 100 or so, pages per minute is irrelevant when it takes 10 minutes to do one. The concept of a "quick print" is a thing of the past. Spoils the whole thing.

  • Neat, nifty and uncomplicated. Does what you ask it to.

Not used this printer a lot, but thus far am very happy with its overall performance. Mainly I just print documents, so can't comment on its It fits fitness for printing photographs or high definition colour prints. It fit neatly into a small space in my office, which was a priority for me, so it suits my needs really well.

  • Recommended unless you will be printing lots of documentation.

I am very pleased with this printer, speed and quality of print is excellent, I was aware from reading previous reviews that the duplex print facility was not built in. I have now found that there are quite a number of occasions that I do not have the option to manually select duplex print, as a result I am using more paper. This is not a criticism of the quality or performance of the printer but a matter you should take into consideration when buying. Mea Culpa.

  • A step backwards in design

I bought this printer to replace my previous Canon printer, a PIXMA IP4300. While this printer produces good quality prints it suffers two drawbacks compared to the 4300. When turned on after a couple of days it clatters and bangs for a really long time (several minutes) before it is ready to print, presumably using up ink while doing this. The printer has two paper cassettes but envelopes and A4 paper use the same cassette requiring the cassette to be unloaded and then reloaded to print a letter and its envelope. If envelopes and paper used different cassettes it would be much more convenient. Sadly not nearly as good as its forerunner.

  • Modern looking light weight printer with great features.

Really happy with the size, it does'nt take up too much space at all . I like how it has a more modern look being white rather than black

  • Excellent

Easy to install and setup, I bought one with non-standard inks, and they printed a B&W pic (best test) almost perfectly, just a slight green tinge, easily remedied in the printer software. I like the small size and the scanner works very well indeed, can easily convert the BMP's to JPEG's. I'd had an iP7520 photo printer before this and it used the same print head so the results are superb. I also like the the fact that there are separate ink tanks.

  • Beware WiFi connection

The printer works fine, the BIG PROBLEM is the time it takes for the printer to start printing after the print button is pressed on the computer. It can take between 10 and 15 minutes. This is over WiFi. I don't have a problem with 2 computers in the room so WiFi from the router is OK but even with a plug in WiFi range extender in the same room the printer is very slow to react. It is so slow on WiFi that I have connected my wifes computer to the printer with USB cable but it is still slower than my old Epson Printer.

  • Well made, and so well worth the money.

It was a plug-and-play item. Although Canon wanted me to buy a bar code reader and scan the shortened instructions several times, a friend showed me where the real instructions could be found. So far so good, I haven't needed them. It just works. The installation disc required a whiz-kid to install it, but being a Dinosaur, that was no surprise. It is so much quieter than our old last printer, which chugged away as though going uphill all the time. This one seems so smooth, as if coping with paper printing was no effort at all. Quite a surprise.

  • My Second One

I bought this because my original one has developed a fault and I have been unable to get anyone to fix it. I was gutted when the fault developed as the Canon Pixma TS5050 has been one of the best ever printers that I have owned. The main reason I was waiting for a sensibly priced one to come up on eBay. It was easy to swap over from my old one, prints as excellently as they ever did and above all these printers are very economical to run. They are not too heavy and not too big size-wise. It fits very well into my small home-office set up. I am a happy printing bunny with nearly a years worth of email and documents to print but I'd buy another of these any day.
