Noir crime drama written and directed by Tarik Saleh. After a cleaner finds the body of a murdered woman in a room at the Nile Hilton hotel in Cairo, corrupt cop Noredin Mostafa (Fares Fares) is tasked with solving the crime. Although he quickly discovers his superiors are eager for the case to disappear, Noredin feels compelled to find the killer and his search leads him to property developer and parliament member Hatem Shafiq (Ahmed Selim). But after he denies responsibility, Noredin discovers the murdered singer moonlighted as a prostitute and was working with a pimp to blackmail her clients, including Shafiq. But in the days leading up to Egypt's 2011 revolution, Noredin finds himself fighting against rampant corruption within the government and police force in his search for the truth about the Nile Hilton incident.
This film noir, set in Cairo as the Arab Spring erupts. There is a murder mystery, the deepest corruption of Cairo. After seeing the movie, you can understand why Egypt won't let it screen in their country, as there is way too much dirty stuff that this movie digs up.
Excellent, almost film noir, production and an authentic cast puts this story about casual corruption in Cairo (pre-uprising) on a level with more high-profile movies like Point Blank and Chinatown. A sleeper.
