Onkyo Hi-MD-105FX unit
The Onkyo Hi-MD unit MD-105FX and wireless remote controller is a dream to work with and own. I recommend this 100% to any serious Mini-Disc enthusiast. It is a easy to use small unit that packs a big punch in sound and records perfectly. Only draw back is to find a owners manual written in english. Also needed is a power converter from American 120v to Japan 100v. It was worth the trouble. This unit is replacing the top of the line series MZ -RH1, -RH100, -RH10 all with bad OLED displays and no parts available or service centers to repair them. It's a sin Sony made the format changed it over the years making it the best it could be then dropped it like a lost leader. Simple to use and great sounding

One of a Kind
As more audiophiles return to digital and analog tech the Minidisc or MD is becoming collectible once more and will no doubt command prices similar to the high end DD cassette Walkman. In its final incarnation the MD evolved to the HiMD 1Gb format supporting multiple modes of recording with compression or with CD quality PCM mode recording. Only Onkyo made components for your HiFi system that supported HiMD recording and playback. The MD-105FX is the best example of this technology but was only sold in Japan for the 100VAC domestic power system. Once you've bought a step down transformer you're ready to go. The MD-105FX will record in PCM mode on any blank MD but the full 90 minute capacity is only available on the rare and pricey HiMD discs. Other formats include HiLP which has compression supporting up to 45 CD's on one MD disc. Pretty cool and sounding better than MP3 too 😎
