The mouse will then run out. Open the gate on that other end. As the mouse moves to the other end to reach the bait, the weight of the mouse is going to move to the farthest fulcrum side triggering the trap and the gate is going to close.

If you've got rats, you need this!

We have one of these on the farm for catching rats. It works great with a piece of cream cracker with a blob of peanut butter on it as bait. Brown rats and black rats like different food but they both can't resist peanut butter. We catch the rats and then shoot them in the head. Once disposed of we pressure wash the blood and guts off the trap and then reset and put fresh bait in it (always wear gloves to avoid disease and wash hands afterwards). Because the trap is galvanised it won't rust so no problem using it outside. I recently had rats come in the attic because of the cold weather so purchased a second trap which is up there now awaiting it's first catch. Traps are better than poison as with poison the rat dies in cavities and inaccessible areas and stinks then you get a fly problem.

    Not good enough

It really is too complicated. Setting the trigger isnt great and getting the bait onto the correct place according to the instructions is very difficult. The trigger isnt sensitive enough, Ive had to alter the angle at the end to make it work better. Its well made but if quality includes fitness for purpose its not good quality.

  • Well made and very effective

Well made and a good size. The door could do with a slightly larger handle as fingers get precariously close to the animal in cage when opening the door. I use a stick to help open and keep fingers away from angry rodent! Also, when set, the trap is a little sensitve and can go off prematurely from a small jolt. Having said that, have caught 7 squirrels to date, all released unharmed to another location.

  • Rat/Squirrel cage

I'm pleased with the rat/squirrel cage! It arrived on time. I thought I had a problem with a squirrel so I ordered the cage however my daughter said that she had seen a rat. I baited the trap with corned beef and put it in a place where only a rat (not a larger creature could get in. I checked it after a day but nothing then I forgot about it for three or four days. When I checked again there was a very large dead rat in it. I disposed of the dead rat and set the trap again but nothing since.

  • Number one choice

I operate about a dozen traps. This model is the best of the live catch type. It's design means that it will go very close to hole.Very easy to bait up and set .Used with peanut butter, it catches.Smear some on floor and outside of trap to overcome rats suspicion.I believe in "free samples" . Be patient, and please ,check traps at least every 24 hrs or sooner. You might get the odd small bird that can be released unharmed after eating all your bait . Finally, dispatch. My choice is .22 pellet. You owe your target a quick and humane.death.Never handle

  • This trap needs finesse to work at its best

I've caught 4 rats in this trap now which has pleased my 13 year old daughter no-end because I shot the first one! Baited with smelly cheese or peanut butter, it failed to catch the rats to start with. They just waltzed in and out with their lunch. The trick is to get the rat's full weight on the pressure plate. 1) do not to put the bait on the sticker that says "bait here", place it as far back as you can. If possible, put the bait right at the back of the trap beyond the pressure plate and shove the trap up to a wall so the rat cannot eat the bait through the bars without even going inside. 2) set the trap and bait it then using an egg cup full of water (or similar sized/weighted item) slowly slide this weight up the pressure plate from the hinge end towards the back of the trap until it nearly goes off. With practice you can pre-weight the pressure plate to a point that it only take feather to set it off....perfect!

  • Nearly great

I haven't cought anything yet after a week of trying, the trigger mechanism is taking a lot of getting used to as the tats are taking the bait, nevertheless its a cage they wont escape from when I do catch one unlike my other lesser cages, im optimistic this cage will catch them.

  • Only for large rats

I had spotted a rat in my garden so I decided to catch it so I purchased this trap. When I checked it the next day the bait had gone and the trap had sprung. The next night I installed a track camera and the result was the same. When I checked the camera it was a mouse or baby rat that had taken the bait. The trap is well built and sturdy so I'm sure it will catch the intended rat if the bait isn't stolen by the little ones.

  • Simple and sturdy

A simple and sturdy design. No instructions, but easy enough to figure out the set up. Seems to work well when tested with a twig. No rats caught but no bait take, so presume none around to catch!
