After firmware upgrade, the BU40N finally worked with Win 10 on a laptop.
This BU40N drive eventually worked with Windows 10 on a Dell M4700 laptop, but NOT imediately. Initially the drive would not play/read any CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disk. At that point in time I did not even try to burn anything. I went to the LG site and downloaded and installed a Firmware upgrade for the optical drive. After trying and rebooting a couple of times, the BU40N drive was then able to play/read a CD, DVD and Blu-Ray disk. I have still not tried to burn anything. Microsoft really screwed people by Windows 10 OS’s failure to support optical drives on a laptop.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great UHD drive
This drive is fast. It was plug and play as it was the same physical size of the original DVD drive HP provided. I tested the different type disks and it worked perfectly. I was also impressed that the drive was recently built with the latest firmware..Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
