Before that dreadful day, the first Ispa had seen them, the disgustingly soft-bodied race who made treaties and conquered no one despite the superiority of their weapons. Ispa was punished with his fellow commanders for surrendering to them, but as he died he began to think their strange ways might have merit. It was the beginning of a change that would surprise the Zhumaan when the last Ispa met them face-to-face.
