Great Soldering Iron for the Price

Although this may be the Weller economy model soldering iron, it still exhibits the superior Weller quality. I bought this to replace another iron that initially had good functionality, but over the years the quality of the replacement tips for it decreased to the point that they only lasted a very short time. This Weller iron has a menu of features, including the iron temperature and also a shutdown feature, if you inadvertently leave it on, like you get side-tracked with another project and forget to shut it off, it goes into a stand-by mode. The shutdown time period is adjustable from the menu. This model doesn't appear to have an "in-use" sensor that more expensive models have, but that's not a big deal for me.

    WE1010NA bad plastic covers smell.

In term of soldering it function like any iron. The WEP70 soldering pencil is like any. The WE1010NA power unit function like any controller, but it is made from bad plastic or material. The power unit was giving off this nasty burnt smell. I thought something was burnt, so I opened the power unit and removed all the removable parts. Then checked every component and discovered the smell was coming from the plastic covers. They were labelled ABS. The smell was so bad that it made the whole office smell. I had to throw away the plastic covers. I took all electronic parts, transformer, triac, led, wires, switch,...etc and stuck them all in a aluminum box. Now the bad smell is gone, and the WE1010NA works like any soldering iron. People will be returning or rejecting this unit of after the first usage..

  • Good little soldering station that's worth it!

A nice and professional soldering station. I'm new to soldering but this was easy to pick up and use. I was able to get all the starting projects I needed to fix done and I didn't ruin them. It does go into standby and drop the heat quickly so putting it down and then waiting for it to heat back up is a pain, but I probably missed something in the manual. It's great to have nonetheless.

  • Great Iron for the price!

Very nice! I really like the adjustable temp setting and it's small footprint. Doesn't take hardly any space and heats up fast enough! Easy to change tips and seems to work very well. I definitely recommend this iron because it works great and the price is very reasonable and will not break the bank to buy it. Searching to get a better price always helps too!

  • An upgrade to the 50 watt analog standard

The fit, finish, and quality is classic Weller, with the upgrade from 50 to 70 watts, this system covers quite a bit of ground. I'm comparing this system to their standard 50-watt analog system, and I like it better. The pen has a better feel, and no more sponge rubber handle to Frey or get messy. As an addition, the pen uses the standard tips as well, so no new parts there. The large digital display allows you to quickly dial in your temp, and it does a great job of holding it there as you solder. Heat up is fast, about 20 seconds or so. There are a lot of bells and whistles I don't need as a hobbyist, as I do mostly lighter electronics work, but keeping a consistent temp is of the upmost concern. All in all, it's a great system. I see this replacing the standard 50-watt analog systems Weller has made famous over the years, as this is a professional grade system that is truly versitile. Don't hesitate to order if you are in the market for a soldering system.

  • Solid Great Quality

Heats to temperature in 20 seconds, awesome. Holds its temp really well. Cord to wand stays really flexible even when it gets pretty cold, no resistance to movement. little confusing to make some of the settings but after time I am sure it will become natural. Very Solid unit. easy to change the tip even when it is hot even though they say not to do it.

  • Tired of buying China junk soldering irons that last 3 months!

This soldering iron warms up to 750 degrees F in about 30 seconds and does a good job of maintaining a steady temperature. I've only had this a month, but Weller has a good reputation for quality and hope it will last years for me. I like the auto off function also, as I have a habit of forgetting my iron is on. You can set how long before it turns off also.

  • Excellent value and a lifetime investment

An excellent soldering station for the serious hobbyist or homebrewing amateur radio operator. With multiple tips, you can solder everything from small surface mount components up to large connectors. Very light and balanced iron with long, kink-free flexible cord. You get what you pay for. Buy a good Weller once and you're set.

  • Since it's Weller, I Purchased FOUR of Them

I finally broke down and insisted on top quality and reliability on 4 benches, after going through quite a few "12 dollar specials". Weller has always been the industry standard for high volume production work, so this is the fourth WE1010A setup I've purchased in the last couple months. True to Weller's history, all 4 stations operate flawlessly. Having also purchased 50 ETAB replacement tips, I should be pretty well set up for life now concerning soldering equipment. The included instructions could be a bit more explanatory (contains pictures only), but at least pictures are universally understood for the most part. With a bit of study and thought, the pictures do cover all functions and how to use them. One of the many things I like about Weller is the heavy duty stand that usually comes with their stations. No plastic here; the whole thing is solid steel with handy holes to store tips for quick access. Once again, Weller hits it out of the park!
