Lovely size cage but not enough room for a depth of sawdust needed at the bottom.
This is a lovely size cage. The flat packed instructions, were it has to be said, not easy to follow and took 2 plus times to turn the pieces to get the ledges to sit in the correct position but once up, it is a very nice looking cage for a small hamster, mouse, or in my case dwarf hamsters x 2.
We did notice an obvious over site in it's design, which could be improved on and it is this.
The bottom of the cage, has a front pull down door, for easy cleaning, which is brilliant, however, the level of sawdust you could actually layer in the bottom. ( Very important for burrowing hamsters and mice ), is less than an inch, before the sawdust would be up against this pull down door and will no doubt be kicked through the small gap where the hinges are.
The solution, we have worked out, is to purchase a cut piece of perspex that will slot inside the cage, at the front, so you can put down a decent level of sawdust for the animals to burrow in, you can then on cleaning out day, brush the sawdust back from the drop down door, remove the added cut perspex and clean out as intended.
The cage designer solution, would be to add a deeper lip in wood at the front of the cage and move the pull down door, slightly higher. This will then accommodate the needed depth of sawdust.
