Good not Great camera for catching urban wildlife. Used for our hedgehogs!
Straightforward camera, but not a real 20MP like Apeman claim. The handbook says it is 5MP sensor interpolated to 20MP. Waterproof, sits on a tripod or can be attached to a tree. Photos are as expected, good quality. Night photos using infra-red are good. The movement trigger seems to work OK, though I am not convinced it is quite as fast as it claims, and it has often triggered on something out of camera view, so I have empty photos. The integrated screen allows viewing of the images, and is as big or bigger than the opposition, though it is a SMALL screen compared to what you get on a cheap camera and tiny compared to a phone.
So far a set of AA batteries have lasted 2 weeks, and show about a third left. In that time they have taken some 1800 photos and 600 10 second videos.
Second set of Duracell Ultra batteries only lasted about a week in cooler weather (nighttime temperatures averaging 8C, minimum 4C). The whole system reset on changing them, so I had to recreate time and date and preferences.
Would like to have more than 3 photos triggered at a time. I'd have to give up video and reduce the time between events to allow this.
The menu is easy enough to understand but goodness it is slow and cumbersome.
There is no way to remote control, or view using bluetooth or wifi. But that would cost a lot more.
To transfer photos, you have to remove the H70 from the tripod mount, open the device and switch off first, then either take out the SD card and put it in a PC, or connect using a USB cable and slow transfer.
Astoundingly for a new 2018 camera, it uses the old USB mini B connector! Good job they supply one - I hadn't used that sort of plug for 4 or more years. I had thought that USB micro was bad when I bought a Samsung wireless charger for my USB C phone this summer, but really.
It is hard to get it to focus on what I want at night, though daytime seems to be fine. I've only a few actually properly focused hedgehogs (or cats or magpies at night) out of several hundred. I guess it is designed for bigger animals.
The last set of pictures didn't take video every time - only 3 videos for 90 sets of 3 photos.
The placement of the tripod socket doesn't allow use of a normal tripod, because the tripod pad catches and prevents the door of the trailcam from closing. Using the supplied mount, I have attached it to a block of wood, but there is no lock nut so it keeps coming loose in the small dome shape that is screwed to the wood.
