Great replacement for my previous Panasonic Lumix camera

Early days yet, but better picture quality, much more flexible and more useful features than my previous Lumix pocket cameras. The telephoto lens much more powerful than before and the more sensitive faster camera means pictures can be less prone to shake. The size impression is that it is huge compared with previous models I've had. However side by side not that much. It will even fit my old cases with a squeeze, ( not practical to use) but have a new case anyway. A bit like a new car they are better , more useful aids, but put on a few mm's all around.

  • Most critical review

    A steep learning curve

I bought this camera following a review in Which because I wanted a travel camera with a powerful zoom lense that I could link directly to my PC by Wifi. It has proved extremely difficult to work out how to use the camera. So far all my photos have been short videos instead of stills and I have spent fruitless hours trying to connect it wirelessly to the PC and to the Lumix cloud site.. So unless you are very adept with learning how to use technology I would not recommend this camera.

  • Great Lumix camera. TZ80

Lumix TZ80 is extremely well constructed, . looks good and has very wide range of features including 30x optical zoom which can digitally be at least doubled. Instructions are very comprehensive although not as clear as they might be. Most basic functions are fairly intuitive. Very comfortable to hold as it is slightly more chunky than the very smallest compacts. Overall a very impressive compact that will fit in the pocket or sit happily in its dedicated case on your belt loop.

  • Great quality camera with loads of features.

Great camera, feels a quality product. Manufacturers refurbishment, but looks and feels brand new. Every feature you could want and then some, but can be used in "intelligent" mode to offer "point and shoot" where all the decisions are taken for you.

  • Extremely capable Camera with control on a par with a full SLR.

Very capable camera with good quality imaged for the sensor size. Some really advanced control, 4k fun rather than for quality images but full manual control and focus is really useful if you are used to SLRs.

  • Panasonic Lumix TZ80

A refurbished camera from Panasonic although you wouldn't know it, seems as new. 12 months warranty included. I have used the TZ range of Lumix cameras since they were first introduced, and this is my 5th one (they live a hard life!) and they're used every day, outdoors, in all weather conditions. They have always taken excellent pictures and the TZ80 is no different. Great zoom, clear images with the benefit of the option of taking a 4k picture, the camera takes a series (short video) of 4K images and you select the one you want. Get the perfect picture. My only small gripe is i wish the pictures could be taken at a lower resolution than the lowest setting of 4.5M, previous models have had VGA as an option, handy when lots of photos have to go into a report. Other than that i would recommend the TZ80 to anyone who wants a hi-zoom good quality 4k capable compact digital camera..

  • I think it’ll be an big improvement once I’ve sussed it out.

I had an earlier model TZ20, which was fairlly easy to learn to use and took good attractive pictures. This new camera I suspect, will do even better. But it has a million and ones settings I am having trouble getting my head round. One useful thing the new one will do it to let me focus on infinity while shooting through a window.

  • Worth the money but susceptible to dust.

Still learning but has some good updates on my old TZ60 such as the post focus option, more manual capability. Main problem with my two previous TZs were their weakness for collecting dust which meant both times the zoom ended up clogging and failing. Was using it in the desert however so difficult to keep it clear of particles. Pricy but takes excellent photos, have not tried the 4k film yet as bought mainly for photos. A little more bulky than my TZ60 but fits the same case. Manual easy to download but is extensive!

  • Great pictures but complicated

Early days an upgrade from a Lumix LF-1, although a Canon fanboy they don't make a compact with a viewfinder and that was the criteria, portability with a viewfinder and good zoom lens. This camera ticked all the boxes and in silver looks great and feels retro. It is however not point and shoot like my previous Lumix camera and have had some initial difficulty with focus and exposure, as well as lots of beeps which send me running to the manual. Picture quality is excellent when I get it right! Great price from the outlet store and although refurbished could find no external faults, just need to get to grips with picture taking.

  • More than point and shoot

There is no such thing as the perfect camera, you pays your money and you takes your choice. I can only say that so far it’s doing everything I want it to do. I know that it has a small sensor compared to my DSLR but for all intents and purposes the picture quality works for me. With the long lens and being able to use it in modes other than auto I am very pleased. The only downside is that the advanced instruction manual is 400 pages and only available as a pdf. Why can’t Panasonic include it as a printed book in the box?
