Product Information

The Sunday Times bestseller 'Funny, touching and unpredictable' Jojo Moyes Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive - but not how to live Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive - but not how to live Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend. Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything. One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world that everyone else seems to take for granted - while searching for the courage to face the dark corners she's avoided all her life. Change can be good. Change can be bad. But surely any change is better than... fine? 'Moving, funny and devastating' The Herald 'Unforgettable, brilliant, funny and life-affirming' Daily Mail 'I adored it. A Stand Alone Read

This is a Stand Alone Book - so compelling - it is hard to put down. This is a re-read for me as I loved it so much when it was first released I think 2017. A must read if you like something a little different. There are moments of absolute hilarity and also sad and painful, but give it a go.

    Anticlimatic

Everyone has raved about this book and so as an avid reader I was excited about receiving my copy. Unfortunately, I couldn't warm to the rythmn of Elenor's voice and so I decided after only several pages that I would pass it on to a local group. However, a friend has advised me to go back to the book and persevere with it, as she had felt the same but had carried on reading further, and thoroughly enjoyed it, as have many people worldwide. Soooo……will give it another chance and then re-review.

  • Original, touching and engaging

This was a book that I wanted to keep reading but didn't want to finish. It is intelligently written and I found the main character to be captivating. The story line was unlike so many of the other books that are available at the moment, original, touching and engaging whilst uncomfortable and amusing all at the same time. I hope that this author is working on her next book!

  • Such a great book mixed with sadness and laugh out loud humour

Would recommend this whole heartedly as there aren’t many books that make me laugh out loud but also make you feel warm and fuzzy. I promise by the time you finish this book you will like Eleanor is your friend.

  • Complex and intriguing, with a vital message

This is a great story, cleverly crafted by the author and very readable. Really one of the very best books written.

  • Fantastic novel

After seeing many friends reading and raving about it, I finally purchased this novel and it is indeed worth the praise! You get hooked on the story from the first page. The antagonist is strange in a good way but very likable. This was meant to be my summer holiday book but I am so absorbed that it will most likely be finished before I even go away! I highly recommend it.

  • Lovely language and unusual storyline

A different story from others I've read. The language and characters are well built and wonderful. It's insightful and relatable. There are pages I reread just because of how well they are written. Although I only read it a couple of months ago I feel I need to read it again. I bought this copy as a gift.

  • Steady, slow build, with surprises along the way...

One of those stories that starts in the middle, with no hint at what brought you to this place. The story unravels suspensefully slowly, but it makes you appreciate Eleanor for who she is in her own right, before any context is known. My tip would be not to try and figure out the end (or beginning!) before you get there. I thought I'd nailed it, got it totally wrong and read the last few chapters in a totally different light to what I ought. Keep the innocence, assume nothing and you'll end the book with a smile.

  • Well worth reading, couldn't put it down.

There aren't many books which are as well written as this. So succinct, no words wasted, yet manages to convey the main character's personality without being over verbose or flowery. My kind of book in so many ways. It's light hearted, but at a very subtle level, deals with issues many of us also try to cope with (i.e. loneliness, social inferiority). The author has managed quite a difficult subject without morbidity. I highly recommend this as a superb read.
