Solid, easy to use but pricey
First things first, the price of motorcycle sat navs is ridiculous but if you need one you need one.
Build quality is outstanding. It feels solid and has some gravity to it. The casing is a mix of hard plastic and aluminium which makes it feel really nice and it looks great.
The supplied fitting kit is good quality but I opted for an aftermarket SW Motech mount for my Tiger so I could keep it out of the way. I ended up using the shorter arm from the original kit to position it correctly.
Programming rides is a bit fiddly on the unit but it included a full version of Tyre map editor so you can create routes and upload them to the unit from your PC.
The included charger bracket needs to be wired into the bikes power butbdoesnt come with direct connections for the battery so it either needs to be soldered into the existing wiring or it needs loop connectors solderingbtobthe cable ends. I think these should have come as standard to make fitting simple but for whatever reason they weren’t added.
On the road the unit is clear and easy enough to use. Through gloves it can be used quite easily but without gloves the screen is far too sensitive and you end up activating areas of the screen just by having a finger near the screen. When connected to a helmet Bluetooth the sound is clear and instructions are precise. The map is easy to read and so far I haven’t found any map mistakes.
The unit can connect to your phone too so while on the move you can use the unit to make calls from your phone through your headset.
I really liked the Plan A Thrill function which allows you to set a destination and then takes you along roads you would never have thought to take. Some are very narrow barely surfaced lanes but the views you’ll see are amazing.
Overall it’s a great unit but the cost makes me wonder if a car unit would have been just as good with the addition of a cover. I’ve dropped one star purely because of the cost. At 3 times the price of a car Tom tom it’s not a small outlay but in the long run it will probably be worth it.
