The TrackPoint is a kind of small joystick that is embedded in the middle of a keyboard (always between the G, H and B keys) and takes over the function of a mouse. It works similarly to a joystick: the harder you press it in one direction, the faster the mouse pointer moves in that direction. The operating principle is based on the use of strain gauges to which a constant voltage is applied. Each touch of the TrackPoint changes the electrical resistance of the corresponding strip for the duration of the touch. The resulting voltage changes are converted into digital signals by a downstream integrated circuit. TrackPoints are used, for example, in notebooks. The advantages of a TrackPoint over a touchpad are that you do not have to take your fingers off the keyboard to control the mouse p.
